Hey Reader,
Today I want to share something personal with you.
Let me take you back to August, 2022.
There I was, sat in a circle of plastic chairs in a community centre on the outskirts of South Manchester.
I was surrounded by strangers, and about to say something that made my skin crawl:
“Hi, I’m Kev… and I’m… an alcoholic.”
As the words left my mouth, my body squirmed from discomfort.
That label just didn’t fit… It was like wearing a jacket that was 2 sizes too small.
It felt awkward, uncomfortable, and restrictive.
Because to be honest - I wasn’t your stereotypical AA attendee.
I wasn’t drinking in the mornings. I didn’t have the shakes. I hadn’t lost my job, or my family, or my home…
I was a social drinker. A happy drinker.
I drank to celebrate, not to cope.
I was always out, DJing, partying, connecting with people. That was my life. And I was the life of the party.
The problem was - I didn’t have an “off” switch.
Once I’d had a couple of beers, all bets were off. I’d lose my friends, go on side quests, and end up at random after parties with total strangers.
But sitting in that circle, drinking tea with condensed milk out of polystyrene cups, listening to someone read from “The Big Book" of Alcoholics Anonymous written in 1939…
I felt this wave of sadness.
I looked around at the other people in the room. People who had truly lost everything. People who, honestly, seemed completely broken.
People who were “sober” from alcohol, but still stuck in the self-defeating narrative of being “an alcoholic”.
And I thought “I’m not like them”.
Not in a superior way. I just didn't identify with this mindset.
Because in that moment, I realised…
The AA model treats addiction like a life sentence.
An incurable disease. You’re broken, powerless, and only a higher power can save you.
But what if that’s not true for everyone?
What if some of us aren’t “alcoholics” - but absolute legends who take it a bit too far?
Ambitious, creative, social people, using alcohol to regulate our nervous systems, because no one taught us any better tools?
What if we don’t need to hit rock bottom to want something better?
Not everyone who struggles with alcohol fits into the typical “alcoholic” stereotype.
Many of us fall within a grey area - functional, social, outwardly successful…
But once we start, we find it hard to stop.
And because of this, we end up sabotaging our potential.
For people like us, we don’t need shame based recovery.
We need practical, science- backed tools that actually work.
That’s why I spent the last 2 years building something different.
This isn’t “AA for millennials”, or “sober-curious lite”.
This is a complete system for transformation, that integrates:
- Ancient yogic practices (movement, breathwork, meditation & nervous system regulation)
- Modern neuroscience (proven protocols for rewiring habit loops and dopamine patterns)
- Real-world strategies (systems to stay magnetic, confident and connected without liquid courage)
This is Shift with Swindells.
I got sober in July 2024 using this exact system.
And now I teach it to my clients.
No dogma, no outdated frameworks, and no labels that feel like a life sentence.
Just practical, real-world tools that help you become the kind of person who doesn’t need to escape anymore.
Because lasting, joyful sobriety isn't about restriction.
It’s about expansion.
It's about building a life so full, so vibrant, that the last thing you want is to escape it.
Here’s a quote from a recent client:
"Before the programme, I was drinking at home every day. I was using alcohol to numb the stress of juggling multiple jobs and travelling long distances to see my kids. I realised it wasn't really managing my stress at all—it was just hiding it, delaying it, and in many ways it was managing me. Through the course, I discovered tools like urge surfing and journalling that helped me rewire my brain completely. Now I have more energy, more clarity, better sleep, and I've reconnected with creative hobbies I hadn't touched in years. The biggest shift was realising I don't need alcohol anymore—I look at it in a completely different way now, and I feel empowered as a result. For anyone considering the Shift with Swindells course, I can’t recommend it enough."

Here's what actually happens when you work with me:
You don't just stop drinking. You undergo a complete re-architecting of body, mind, and spirit.
The addiction cycle - the cravings, guilt, shame, anxiety - it all dissolves.
And in its place, you find clarity, confidence and alignment.
You rewrite your story of who you are, and what you're capable of.
And this positivity spills over into every other area of your life.
Your relationships deepen. Your work improves. Your energy comes back. Your ambition reignites.
You wake up and realise you're not just resisting temptation - you’re actually free.
And you finally step into the version of yourself you always knew was possible.
